Biodiversity: The range of organisms present in a particular ecological community or system.
In other words, the more varieties and quantities of animals and plants that can be found in an ecosystem, or an ecological community, the more biodiverse it is. Biodiversity gives scientists a way to measure the health of an ecosystem.
The Amazon rainforest is considered the most biodiverse ecosystem in the world.
